Master Ji offers classes for every age, skill, and Taekwondo belt level.
AGES 4 - 6
This group will learn White belt skills in 6 different belt levels to prepare for the Beginner class. New White belt techniques are learned with each belt level so younger students can focus on mastering skills a little at a time.
AGES 7 - 12
This class teaches the basic skills of Taekwondo which includes warm up, stretching, stance, how to block, punching, kicking, and sparring. Students will learn techniques needed to participate in the Beginner class.
Beginner Belts (Yellow, Orange, Green)
The Beginner class has three belt levels. Students will build on what they learned in White belt class and learn basic Taekwondo Forms for each different level and additional kicking skills. Students also start to practice Olympic Taekwondo sparring (body contact only), basic Judo sparring skills, basic single nunchaku skills, and basic board breaking skills each with advancing techniques at each level.
In addition to physical training, students will prepare mentally by studying the Children's Home Rules for their belt level. These rules are studied primarily at home with a goal to teach students to be a better person in their life.
Intermediate Belts (Purple, Blue, Brown, Red)
The Intermediate class has four belt levels where students will learn advanced levels of Taekwondo Forms for each level. Students will learn 10 basic kicks and will continue to train in Olympic Taekwondo sparring (body contact only) with a focus on development of foot work and combination techniques. Advanced Judo sparring, double nunchaku skills and advanced board breaking techniques are also taught for each level.
In addition to physical training, students will prepare mentally by studying the Children's Home Rules for their belt level. These rules are studied primarily at home with a goal to teach students to be a better person in their life. Red belt students will also learn Korean vocabulary.
Junior Black Belt
Advanced belt level class focusing on preparation for taking the 1st Dan Black Belt test for which students must know all levels of Taekwondo Forms. Students will also train in Full contact Olympic Taekwondo sparring (light head contact) and Judo sparring. They will continue to improve Nunchaku skills and develop their own performance for the belt test. In addition, students will learn jumping and spinning board breaking techniques.
Students will also have mental preparation for their Black Belt test through the study for Korean vocabulary which is tested verbally and written.
Students begin their Black Belt training by learning all of the basic detail movements and will continue to train for higher skills of Taekwondo Forms. They will also continue to develop sparring skills adding staff techniques and self defense (Hapkido).
ADULT: AGES 13 & UP
This class is about being healthy through Martial Arts training. Adults will learn basic Taekwondo skills coupled with many different kinds of workouts to improve Martial Arts skills. Adults start as White belts, learn each belt level techniques, and increase skills in preparation for belt test promotions.
Open Mat provides adults who may miss some regular classes due to busier work or school schedules an opportunity to practice skills with their peers. This is an optional class.
Adults who are interested in Judo can learn more Olympic style Judo sparring techniques in a weekly, focused, 2 hour class.
